My Latest Read....

Of course we stayed at the lake an extra night. Seems we always do. Me being unemployed and hubby being self-employed has its perks I guess.

I had fun with my sister & her family. It was so neat to look across the lake and know they were only a 10 minute walk or a 3 minute boat ride away!

Today I'm going to use my blog for plug. Not because anyone asked me to - just because I want to! A book review actually....

I just finished reading "The Shack" by William Young. It's a work of fiction in the sense that the story never really happened. But it's true in the sense that it's based on truth. If you read it, you'll know what I mean.

The first few chapters are slow. I put the book down several times before I finally picked it up and got past chapter four - where things pick up. After that I couldn't finish it fast enough! Very few times have I read something that has moved me as deeply or opened my eyes so - as this book has. My view of God has not changed. But it has been enhanced. I can understand the depth of His love so much better now. I can see the difference between religion and relationship much more clearly.

There is much controversy swirling around this book. The legalists are having a hey day. But I believe they are lifting 'catch phrases' from the text and making inferences that I frankly don't believe exist. But hey. Who am I? Just my opinion, that's all. In any event - I strongly would urge you guys to take a look at it. It's available in paperback. (Carried at the local public libraries too - but heavily on back order due to its popularity at the present time.)

I'd love to dialogue here about the book if you've read it. Or plan to. It's awesome!

Glad you had a nice visit at the lake. I read The Shack this summer. I will say this...it was something to talk about and discuss. For some reason it wasn't my favorite read, but I always say if it opens someones eyes and helps people, then it really dosn't matter if it was 'my favorite'. I feel that way about sermons and preachers. Somedays it just does nothing for me, but when I hear someone say it changed their life I think, wow, what does it matter what I think if it is impacting someone for the good. It's late and I am rambling. Where can you read other peoples comments about the book? Just curious. It is a good book.

Grammy...here is a link to a site that addresses most of the concerns some people seem to have with The Shack.

I have no possibility to buy this book here, but many blogs have commented on it already. It really seems to be very good, and I would love to read it.
Do you have a link, where I could maybe order it online?

Hi Lora -

I'm behind on my reading - blog reading, that is! I haven’t read nor even heard of the book you mention. I'll have to check into it. I'm reading The Story of Edgar Sawtelle right now - not because it's Oprah's book, but because I'd heard it was really good. And it is!

Just wanted to mention how lovely the photo is of you and your sisters (and one sis-in-law) from your previous post. Oldest or not, you are such a beautiful woman. Lora. Never forget that!

So glad you gave a review of this book. It is sold in my church's bookstore and may are raving about it but I just haven't felt the need to read it. I'm glad to hear from someone not my church related that likes it. I'll have to check it out. Another one that is now the it book at church to read is Shadow Boxing. Have you heard of it.

So glad you had a great weekend with your sis. I knew you would how could you not. Have a great weekend.

How funny Lora. The WW points calculator is to big to fix on the side bar so I have to leave it there. I love it being handy when I need it. Thanks for the visit and comment.

Wow, looks as though we've both been MIA bloggers!

Hoping that all is well with you and that you're getting some beautiful weather your way. The strike finally ended and we returned to classes last week.

That's all the drama I need for now!

Lora, I am worried about you. Hope all is well and maybe you got a job. It's funny how you can get worried about a fellow blogger you always visit. Duhhh, I just now decided to pray that all is well. Don't know why this silly mind of mine didn't click in to that sooner. (o:

I haven't read this book, but I've walked past it several times at the book store & contemplated it. I have another friend who has a book review blog that just read & reviewed it, and she enjoyed it!
