Sailing through Week One....

I'm doing very well with my moratorium on fast food. Seeing that I am in the car daily and have to pass several ff joints every time I drive somewhere - I'm quite proud. Especially since it hasn't been much of an issue. When there is only one thing you're focusing on, it's not all that difficult.

I'm hoping as I slowly add new habits each week (or abandon old ones) that it stays this manageable. I honestly don't know why I never tried this strategy before. Maybe because I'm such a "gotta have the results now" kind of person and this seemed too slow. But looking back over my efforts the past 17 months - I certainly haven't been breaking any records for speed in the weight loss arena! So if what I was doing wasn't working (and clearly it wasn't) then what I'm doing now makes sense.

I've talked about healthy lifestyle changes so much that I've sounded like a broken record. It's always been "I need to do this" or "I should do that". But the needs and shoulds have been coupled with so many other needs and shoulds that it's been overwhelming. Because if I mess up on one - I inevitably throw in the towel on all the others. So this one thing at a time - one week at a time thing makes perfect sense. At least for me.

I'm not even worried about the drive to the mountains this weekend. I'm going to pack myself a sandwich and some fruit and when I feel like I need a pit stop - I'll scope out a place with picnic tables or a grassy lawn to throw a blanket on and eat there. It'll be just me and my 3 1/2 year old grandson in the car. The rest of the crew can't get there till much later that evening and I'm anxious to set up camp while it's still daylight (you know...the whole bear thing and all...)

I think if the kids were riding with me it might be harder to resist the ease of a fast food pit stop. So this will work out just fine.

Sunday I start Week Two. Which will focus on water. I've done quite well with the whole water intake thing for the most part, but the past month I've gotten lax. I'm going to make sure that my Brita Water bottle gets filled up and emptied twice everyday. I've been reading some interesting facts on water consumption lately (most I knew but some were surprising) that I'll share next week.

Hope you're all enjoying the "hump" day!

*takes big gulp of water* I need to do the water thing too. I've been working on it all week. I'm trying to move out some of this excess weight that I'm holding onto. Although, I've got my coffee IV in place now too!

You sound very calm and at peace with no fast food. Maybe there's something to the idea of taking life a little slower, part of which is eating at home or eating what we prepare and take with us. Hmmm.

I'm doing the no junk food thing this week too, till Monday. I never realised just how much i might consider junk food untill your great idea!
The past 2 nights were spent at night school. By the time i came out i was starving. Normaly i'd head straight to Maccas and what i'd pick there was anyone's guess!
But i didn't.I waited till i got home and had something healthyish :o)

I'm refocusing on water for my next week's change, too, and practicing for it this week. :)

It's good to know things are going so well for you! This trip will be a breeze now.

I've been struggling with water today, thanks for the reminder that I need to suck it down.

I'm with you on the fast food ban btw, I drove past McD's this morning and said "I used to eat like that but I don't anymore" and kept driving with no regrets.

I drink almost nothing else but water (the occasional glass of o.j., coffee in the morning--not giving it up!, and diet pepsi if I'm having pizza).

Curious about what you have to say on the topic :)

As to teaching, a bigger problem here is a lack of jobs altogether! I'm hoping to use it as a stepping stones into other areas if I can't get into the public school system.

As to age discrimination, I don't think I've ever heard of it as too big an issue. I'm constantly reading articles in the paper about how places are trying to hold on to their older, experienced workers.

We'll see--I'm keeping VERY POSITIVE and am looking forward to it.

I'm trying to play catch up on my blog reading. A few days away will put you weeks behind on reading.

I'm proud of you for staying away from the fast food. It is my down fall. I live alone and you would think it would not be a big deal to go home and fix something but I'm just lazy. I'm going to try your approach one week at a time.

Hope you have a great weekend.

I am a fast food junkie, however subway has long been my fast food of choice, speaking of I think I still have a half of a sub in my fridge. I'm looking forward to some new water facts!
