The fruits & veggies are going down (as in...I'm eating them!) I'm actually enjoying the fresh fruit which seems to be satisfying my sweet tooth. The water is second nature now. Of course I know that I'll always have to keep at it because it's the easiest habit to let go by the wayside. The smaller plate....sometimes I still forget to actually use it - but I have been consciously putting less on the plate and keeping it filled with veggies is helping too. As for the fast food - not been a problem. I think it was almost more out of boredom than anything else that kept me going there.
Next week's challenge for myself picks up where I left off a month ago. My exercise. For those of you who know me - I started the Couch 2 5K program and got myself to running 21 minutes without stopping. Not bad for a grandma. But the heat set in and I got lazy. No other excuse. Just plain lazy. So starting next week I'm hitting the road again. I'll have more details on that later.
Next week I'm also jumping in the Summer Blog Party with my own give away! More details on that to follow too!
Speaking of summer....has anyone in this hemisphere noticed the subtle changes that August brings? I mean - it's still officially summer here for two more months - but already I've noticed that it's getting darker sooner and the night air has that familiar nip that means fall is on its heels. I always hate to see summer end. I was born in the wrong climate. I was meant to live near an ocean....with palm trees. Alas, I live in upstate New York near Lake Ontario which translates to the dreaded lake effect snow. It seems like just yesterday I was sitting on the dock at the lake in anticipation of the whole summer looming ahead. And now....Labor Day weekend is almost here and summer is about to wind down.
Okay...and why am I lamenting about all this now? Not sure. It's just something I always seem to do this time of year. Sorry (!)

I am also sad that summer is almost gone. We have had cool rainy weather which is not the norm. I wanted to swim a lot this summer and the cool mornings and evenings have kept the pool (My sisters) to cool for me. I have used it, but not enough )O:
I know what you mean, Lora. There is a nip in the air - and I live in southern California! LOL! But I can feel it, too. The nights are definitely cooler.
When I first moved here, and interviewed for a job, I mentioned that I wouldn’t miss winter, but I’d sure miss fall. One of the guys interviewing me said, "In California, Autumn is a state of mind." It's true! We don’t get traditional Fall, but I miss it - so I see it everywhere I look. There ARE trees out here that turn and drop their leaves!
I grew up in Rochester, lived a lot of my adult life in Buffalo, so I can totally relate to the lake effect snow thing...

Fabulous @ 50
I noticed today that the leaves are falling off some of the trees already. No nip in the air here just hot and humid. Got a question for you what is 5K? I know what K means I just don't know how it translates into miles. I can walk a long way but I don't think I could run but then I haven't tried. Grace and blessing to you.
Woohoo on the veges! Do you feel your energy levels go up?
The 1st of Sept is the first day of spring here :o)
I don't think I will ever feel sad for summer to be over! By the time June rolls around I'm ready for winter. It's just so darn hot in Houston!
And it won't get cooler till the end of November. Ugghh! My highest electricity bills for the AC are always August and September, so I still have a while to go! I don't know how much more my pocketbook can take!
I know what you mean Lora. Although, I'm in the souther part of Ontario and we're much warmer than the rest of the province, the weather has cooled down and I'm noticing the shorter days.
It smells like fall and back to school!
AHHHHHHHH.... there are those words. Lake Effect Snow... That's the first time I've heard it since winter ended.
I do love the nip in the air and the cool crispness that you can smell. Fall is my favorite season, and I can never get enough of it!
Hi Lora . Thanks for your Blog and the 12 week challenge.
I'm not going for 12 weeks or anything time related at present. The plan is to make one or two changes, consolidate them and move on to the next step in building a healthy lifestyle. I thought the the 'Tippy Toe,' (thanks Cammy for your wisdom), thing was not for me but like you, this time around I'm finding it the best way and quite possibly the only way. I've always gone 'cold turkey,' or made radical changes overnight but I don't have the energy to do that. Small steps work and are better than doing nothing.
Blessings.
Charlotte. Went to old #42 school on Lake Ave...
Spencerport....grrrr.... I went to Hilton High. We moved from Roch out to Hilton when I was 14.
