This morning I subbed for a delightful kindergarten class (I forget how much I love the little ones!) Then I came home, put the finishing touches on several resumes I'm sending out for jobs this fall. After that I cut the grass. Fruitful day so far. But then....I put my new running shoes on (I know they're just sneakers...but running shoes sounds more...I don't know....serious) and I hit the road!
I had put the Couch to 5K on hold because of the knee and groin issues. But things feel better and I fared well on the 5+ miles I did with the girls yesterday so it was now or never. I did great! Did my alternate jogging and walking (didn't give a hoot what I looked like) and my new shoes were wonderful! My feet didn't hurt as they did when I ran last week. While I wasn't gliding on air - I was feeling a lot less impact and the difference was noticeable.
I was sweating when I got done. And that makes me feel like I've done something! I've been doing my weights regularly too and can see the definition now in my arms. Now granted...it's under a layer of fat, but it's there! And I can see it!
Can anyone sense some motivation here? Gheesh - I've been needing that for an awful long time. But I have to keep going. You runners out there - tell me how good it is! Tell me that it's worth it! Because I think this is going to be the ticket. My middle daughter runs. She has for years now. And she's thin and buff and strong and has "to die for" legs. Wouldn't it be great if this Memorial Day weekend, she & I could go for a run around the lake together? Yes....that would be cool! Wait. Memorial Day weekend is in just a few weeks. Hmmm. Well - I can try can't I? (She's a good daughter. She'll stop if he momma gets tired.)
So how about the rest of you guys? Are you getting the bug to recommit yourselves? I mean...we're in this Healthy Challenge together - so let's do it!
Oh - I almost forgot - Diana is giving away a bike on her blog! Go check it out!

Good job on the shoes!! I'd love to be able to buy a decent pair of running shoes [yea, runners lol]. At the moment i have a collection of cheap, but comfortable runners, that only last me about 3 months of every day use. I've never had "good" shoes, so i don't know the difference.
The motivation is creeping back and I'll be returning to the gym TODAY! I had a pretty good weekend and it seems like you did too!
Way to go! I'm so proud of you. It's totally worth it. My legs are even more killer than they were before. I'm starting to see definition in my abs (yes, also under layers of flab, but it's there). It's a great thing you are doing for yourself. I've been running for almost a year now. I started Memorial Day Weekend. WHOO hoo for you!
What kind of shoes did you end up getting? I had a good run yesterday but started to feel it in my groin and hip (always the right).
yay for mojo!
Oh Lora, what a wonderful post! I can feel your motivation and dedication from here. I need a kick in the you-know-what to get going again, and your enthusiasm may be just the ticket!
Congrats - I'm SO proud of you!
Manuela~In answer to question about my running shoes...I was actually looking for a pair of Asics- gel equation 2, because they were recommended for my feet. (Also Asics Gel Nimbus 9's - but they were too pricey!) Unfortunately... the store did not have my size so I opted for a similar style. They are Avias (a2244WW). You need to know your running style. I underpronate which means my foot rolls out (If the heels on you shoes are worn down on the outsides - you underpronate - or it's also called supination.) I also bought a 1/2 size larger than I normally wear - was advised to do that also. I got the shoes - regularly $69 for $36 on sale at Kohl's. Prices are all over the place so I thought I'd be frugal before I lay any real money down. They sure made a difference though! My groin killed after my first 2 runs. This time - nothing! And my feet didn't hurt either like they did with my old shoes. (Which by the way were about 6 years old and definately not running shoes!)
Good luck!
Love your enthusiasm! And, of course, you can run around the lake with your daughter on Memorial weekend.....what a fun thing to look forward to!
When motivation hits it's so wonderful. Enjoy it while you have it and when it sneaks away for awhile, keep plugging along 'cuz it eventually comes back again. Our job is to set up the habits so that in absence of motivation, we still do what we need to do.
Glad the motivation bug kicked in for you! You're doing great! I'm sure you'll be up to that Mother-Daughter run! I'll be rooting for you!
Ask you Mojo if she's seen my Aunt Flo, who is still missing!
I'm so impressed with your running! Well done!
Lora and the magic running shoes! You are doing great with the walking (my goodness the miles you are logging).
Wooohooo!! I'm so proud of you!!
Wow you're on fire! Way to go!
I love my Asics (and my Avias before them). I always feel so...fast in them. :)
Keep up your fantastic attitude and sweet, sweet spirit!
